Beer Bottle Art

In case you haven't noticed, I am all about inexpensive, DIY art that looks good - especially when it's white and 3-D, like the artwork I made for the kitchen last week.

So, of course, these beauties captured my attention when I found them on Pinterest (and originally seen here, here and here.)

Aren't they purty? I figured I could totally pull this off. So, into the recycle bin I went, and pulled out these guys:

I went with two different types of beers so that I could get two different bottle shapes, and then added a wine bottle for some height. A quick bath in warm soapy water...

...and the labels peeled right off. I snagged the little guys at Michaels, at $2 each, and this puffy paint made especially for glass, for $3. Not too shabby.

Now, I've never been good at art, and I'm also not known for my steady hand. But, I gave it my best shot and this is what I came up with:

I tried writing words, but my hand is shaky so it didn't look all that great. For now, I can live with random swirls. Once the puffy paint was good and dry, I put them in the garage and introduced them to the Spray Paint Fairy. A couple coats and some additional drying time gave me these:

I'm totally diggin' them - I think they're so fun! I was originally planning to give them a home in the dining room, but then I decided to try them on the built-ins instead.

And here's a wider angle of the entire wall:

Definitely a fun project, not to mention easy and inexpensive. The entire thing cost under $8 - $4 for the little guys, and $3 for the puffy paint. I already owned the spray paint, and obviously I'm not gonna count the cost of the alcohol that was in the bottles.

I'm planning to do some more for the cabinet that sits in the family room, but since that cabinet is all white, I'm thinking I may go wild and crazy and use some color on the next set. First time for everything, I suppose.

  1. I like these and will be stealing the idea. I'm thinking I'll paint them in an accent color, as Sir seems to think we need bright colors in the tranquil temple that is the bedroom.
