About the Newlyweds

I'm Reba, and the Mister is Tim. We're busy, young professionals who adore our new house and taking on all the projects that turn it into a home.

We met in graduate school in 2007, when Tim started hitting on me in the library. Before long, we were sharing my little apartment in the small city outside Washington, DC, where our school was located. While I was finishing up school, Tim got a job in DC. He took the Metro to work every day, and we would walk about town at night, getting dinner and having drinks at the local restaurants and bars. Life was good.

In October, 2008, Tim proposed while we were away on a weekend trip to the beach. We planned a June, 2010 wedding to allow me enough time to finish school and land a job. By the summer of 2009 though, Tim was no longer happy in his work situation, so we decided to live off our savings to allow him to quit and look for work elsewhere. Luckily, it paid off. He landed a job out in the suburbs, about 20 minutes away from where I had been interning throughout graduate school (and subsequently been offered a job upon graduation).

The commutes from the city into the suburbs and back every day lasted about 4 months before we had both had enough. (We're here to tell you - reverse commutes are a myth. At least in Washington, DC.) We packed our little apartment up and decided to try our hand at being suburbanites. The first day I left work at 5pm and walked through my door at 5:15, I was sold.

In June, 2010 we made things official with a big wedding back in the city where we met, followed by a reception at one of the military bases close by.

Mr. and Mrs!
June 19, 2010

We settled into married life, and eventually bought our "dream" house, which you can read all about here.

For our one year anniversary, we decided to expand our family and brought home these two loveable furballs from the local animal shelter.

Chester the Tabby & Nora the Tuxedo

They were the oldest cats at the shelter, and by far the fattest. They had the least chance of being adopted, since they were surrounded by kittens, so we took them both. They didn't know each other, and didn't particularly care for each other either, but they've learned to get along (sort of). Either way, we adore them.

These days, we fill our weekdays with those jobs we had to suffer through graduate school to get, but make time for TV dates (we're addicted to HGtv and Food Network), walks, jogs and bike rides around our neighborhood, dinners with friends and laughing at our furballs. Oh, and slowly tackling every room and project in our house with a little DIY love.
